Re-Bound

Student Collaboration Work/Design Concept

We were approached by the University of Idaho’s Sustainability Center to help improve the recycling rate on the campus up to 40%. The center had been awarded a grant to help with this issue, and was looking for a solution to their limiting factor of recycling behavior. The limiting factor was that roughly 80% of people on campus were not aware or else did not think the current system was easy enough to use. The largest waste products included paper, E-waste, and compost (food waste, and garbage). Our solution was to get students involved with recycling by creating a fun and rewarding system. By making a game out of recycling waste, we believe it would encourage a positive recycling trend. Participants received punch cards that counted towards free items such as T-shirts. We also thought creating an app that students could download and play any time and anywhere would further reinforce our approach to the issue.
